Tiny Mighty Power’s big push into small towns

Tiny Mighty Power’s big push into small towns

A niche electricity retailer developed specifically to service smaller New Zealand towns, was launched yesterday.

Tiny Mighty Power, New Zealand’s newest electricity retailer, was launched in the South Waikato towns of Cambridge and Te Awamutu, promising cheaper electricity for most households and a special winter bonus for senior citizens.

The company is ensuring those who choose to live outside of New Zealand’s main centres also enjoy the benefits of the competitive retail electricity market.

Tiny Mighty Power is a division of Bosco Connect Ltd, which has a five year track record as a successful specialist electricity retailer and is backed by the strength and experience of Mighty River Power.

Tiny Mighty Power Manager Toby Warren says Cambridge and Te Awamutu are good examples of how the benefits of retail electricity competition have often not flowed through to small town New Zealand.

“Our research shows the majority of Cambridge and Te Awamutu customers are paying a higher price for their electricity than they need to. By switching their electricity account to Tiny Mighty Power, customers could save up to 14 per cent on their monthly electricity bill,” says Mr Warren.

“The news is even better for Cambridge and Te Awamutu senior citizens who will qualify for an additional 10 per cent saving during the winter months of June, July and August, helping keep those with fixed incomes warm and healthy during the coldest part of the year.”

Mr Warren says Cambridge and Te Awamutu were chosen for the launch of Tiny Mighty Power because they have vibrant local economies, a local network company that’s been good to work with, and “the incumbent retailer’s pricing appears inexplicably high – even after discounts.”
